Margarita Alta

Margarita Alta is a 37-year-old indigenous woman from the community of Topo Grande, Cotacachi. The mother of six children, ranging in age from 2 to 22, is proud that all of them are in school. Her eldest son and her husband work in construction in Otavalo, Cotacachi and Quito.

In September 2023, Margarita joined Pan de Vida thanks to one of our champions from the community of Santa Barbara. Since then, she has benefited from a basic life farm, which has two beds. Her love for agriculture motivates her to work hard in her life farm, which she has managed to expand with dedication and effort.

As a homemaker, Margarita spends much of her time taking care of her children, her animals-such as guinea pigs, and pigs, and, of course, her garden. In addition to the vegetables she grows, she also grows corn and beans, adapting to the different seasons. Her commitment to community development has led her to actively participate in workshops and the implementation of gardens in other communities.

Margarita received technical support for her garden, school supplies and toys for her children during the Christmas season, and food bags. Her dedication and efforts not only benefit her family but also contribute to the well-being of her community.

“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” – 2 Corinthians 9:6.
