Rosa Lema Fuerez, a 45-year-old indigenous woman from the Mojandita community in Cotacachi, is a living inspiration of perseverance and faith. As a single mother of six children, including one with a significant intellectual disability, her life is marked by challenges that she faces with courage and determination.
Although she is a homemaker, Rosa does not limit herself to traditional roles; every Wednesday she goes to the local market to sell vegetables. She came to the Pan de Vida Foundation in September 2023, through the community leader of Mojandita, which marked a turning point.
With the Basic Life Farm, Rosa now grows a variety of vegetables that not only feed her family but are also a vital source of income when she sells them at the market.
Pan de Vida has been a light of hope and support for Rosa. From technical assistance for her life farm to the provision of the basic food staples with the food bags and community development, she has experienced a notable change in her life. The agroecology workshops and biblical teachings have strengthened her faith and knowledge, and she currently congregates with her family in a local Christian church.
As Psalm 37:5 says, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.”. Rosa has put her trust in God and the support of the community around her, and we are excited to see how she continues to prosper spiritually and personally.
