In the midst of the 32-day strike that took place in Otavalo—when fear, uncertainty, and misinformation weighed heavily on every family—Digna I., a 31-year-old wife, mother of two, and caregiver to her husband’s grandmother, found hope where it seemed impossible.
Digna told us that during those days, the hardest part was not knowing what could happen. Going out to buy food became complicated. But in her case, God opened a very special path: through the Life Farm (huerto de vida) that Pan de Vida had given her months earlier.
Thanks to her Life Farm, Digna had fresh, organic food at home for her family and for the grandmother she cares for. While many people couldn’t access basic food, she was able to harvest what she needed without leaving her community.
And then another ray of hope arrived.
“When Pan de Vida arrived, I felt so happy because the community really needed support. Many people were already running out of resources,” she shared with emotion.
Digna is one of the champions of our Life Farms program. Her huerto is flourishing, and recently Pan de Vida also provided her with baby chicks, which she is now raising to continue caring for her family and blessing those around her.
Her story is just one of many, but it reflects something much greater:
when a community comes together and God provides, even in the darkest moments, there is always light.
