Adrianna Fofer’s story is one of resilience in the face of overwhelming challenges. Originally from Venezuela, she lives in Quito with her partner, Cristhian, their three-year-old Liam, and Cristhian’s sixteen-year-old brother, Bladin, who recently joined them. Together, they form a united and loving family, even as they navigate extreme financial and health difficulties.
Liam, their little boy, was born with a serious heart condition that has left him with a severe disability. He has already undergone one surgery, but doctors have said he urgently needs a second one. Unfortunately, the public health system has been overwhelmed, and despite months of waiting, the family has not been able to secure a date for his operation. During this time, Pan de Vida has walked alongside Adrianna and her family—providing food support, covering medical appointments and exams, and preparing to assist them with meals during Liam’s next hospital stay.
On top of caring for Liam, a few months ago Adrianna learned that she was five months pregnant. Because she was unaware of her pregnancy earlier on, she was deeply worried about the baby’s health. Pan de Vida has been helping her receive prenatal checkups and exams to ensure both she and her baby are safe.
Financially, the family’s situation is very fragile. Earning only half the minimum wage—mostly through gardening jobs and small tasks at a motorcycle workshop—their income does not even cover their basic expenses. Their refrigerator is often empty, and food insecurity remains their most urgent struggle. Yet in the midst of uncertainty, Adrianna and her family have expressed gratitude for the support they’ve received, and they continue to hold on to hope for a brighter future.
Adriana’s story is a powerful reminder of the importance of community and compassion. Through the help of Pan de Vida and others willing to walk alongside them, her family has found encouragement and tangible support in a season of great need.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” – Psalm 46:1
