Ana Sanchez

Ana Sanchez is a retired teacher from Venezuela who has lived in Ecuador for the past seven years alongside her adult son. In Venezuela, she devoted her career to working with children with learning disabilities in the public schools. After the collapse of the country’s social security system, Ana made the difficult decision to leave her homeland and join her son, who had been living and working in Ecuador and was financially stable at the time.

However, their situation took a drastic turn during the COVID-19 pandemic when Ana’s son lost his job at an automotive factory. Since then, the two have relied on selling arepas, empanadas, and coffee in the downtown area to make ends meet.

Since becoming a beneficiary of Pan de Vida, Ana has found vital support through several of our programs. She receives regular groceries, medical attention for her ongoing health issues, and participates in the hot meal program, where she’s welcomed into a caring and supportive community.  Ana also has been a faithful attendee of Pan de Vida’s micro-entrepreneurship classes to gain new skills and strengthen her ability to contribute to their small food business.

Even in the face of uncertainty, Ana holds on to her faith and continues to take steps forward with courage and resilience.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will       strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

— Isaiah 41:10
