Finding Hope Far From Home

A little over a year ago, *Sandra and her family had to leave Colombia in search of a safe place where they could start over. What began as an attempt to find stability and new opportunities for their children eventually became a process filled with unforeseen changes, uncertainty, and constant challenges.

Upon arriving in Ecuador, the family found themselves in vulnerable situations while trying to adapt to a new reality far from their home. During that time, they had to move between different cities and face difficult moments related to security and family stability. Even so, they never stopped persisting to stay united and move forward for the well-being of their children.

Currently, the family continues to face economic and health-related difficulties. The father works informal jobs in an effort to cover the household’s basic needs, while both parents do everything they can to provide care, stability, and opportunities for their children amid daily limitations.

One of the family’s biggest concerns has been the children’s health. One of their sons urgently required corrective glasses and specialized medical follow-up, while the youngest child in the household needed nutritional support and additional medical care. While these may be considered basic and accessible forms of care in many parts of the world, for families as such living in vulnerable circumstances, obtaining them can become a significant challenge.

But since arriving at Pan de Vida, the family has received lots of crucial support through food assistance, nutritional support, medications, and the provision of basic necessities for their children, which resulted in a significant improvement of their quality of life and daily well-being.

However, beyond the material assistance, what deeply impacts those who meet this family is their resilience and hope. Despite everything that they have been through, they continue striving each day to build a better future for their children, remaining united and trusting that God continues to guide their path.

It is this hope that lies at the heart of Pan de Vida. We are grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside families like this one, remembering that even in the midst of difficulties, it is still possible to find hope, love, and new opportunities to begin again.
