How one life farm changed everything for Aida and her family

Aida Morales is 42 years old and lives with her husband and her two children in the community of Carabuela. Before becoming part of the Life Farms program at Fundación Pan de Vida, her family depended mainly on the informal buying and selling of sacks to generate income. Although she worked hard to support her household, her family’s diet did not frequently include fresh vegetables.

In August 2024, Aida learned about Fundación Pan de Vida through her community and decided to join the basic Life Farms garden program. It was then that she began learning the process of planting and caring for her own vegetables. Through the guidance and training provided by the program, she discovered that it was possible to produce healthy food right at home. Before having her garden, Aida spent between 7 and 8 dollars per week buying vegetables for her family. Today, she shares that she is able to save around forty dollars per month, as many of the vegetables they consume now come directly from her own garden. For her, one of the greatest blessings is knowing that the food she grows is organic and free from chemicals that could affect her family’s health. As she expresses, “I feel blessed because I know that what we consume is healthy and does not harm my family.”

Since incorporating more vegetables into their meals, Aida has noticed positive changes in her home. Her family now eats in a healthier way, and she personally feels more energetic in her daily life. Her garden has become a constant reminder of God’s provision through simple yet meaningful ways. The impact of this process has also reached her family. They are involved in caring for the garden, and what began as a small initiative has become an activity, they do together. In addition, Aida shares part of her harvest with her neighbors, turning her garden into a blessing for others in her community.

Alongside the practical training, the spiritual support she receives through devotionals and Zoom meetings has deeply strengthened her faith. In moments when she has felt discouraged or faced difficulties, these spaces have been a source of encouragement and hope. As she has shared, her faith has grown and her outlook has changed, finding in God a new strength to keep moving forward.

Today, Aida feels grateful for everything she has learned through Fundación Pan de Vida. What began as a small garden has become something much greater: a place where her family comes together, where she can bless others, and where she is reminded each day that God provides for her needs.

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:19
