JOSÉ IGNACIO ALMACHI AGUIRRE

José, 76 years old, has faced a series of challenges throughout his life. After the death of his wife four years ago due to complications from COVID-19, he took on the responsibility of caring for his 5-year-old granddaughter, who lives with him. Although he does not have a stable job, José strives every day to provide his granddaughter with what she needs for her education, contributing money for her transportation. Despite his financial limitations, José has unconditional love for his family and does everything possible to provide for the basic needs, with the help of his daughters who work in construction.

During the visit to his home, we observed that the house, although small, provides them with the essentials. The access is a bit challenging, as they have to go down dirt stairs. Also, we noticed that Sofia is somewhat underweight, and while it is not an alarming situation, it is suspected that she may be experiencing mild malnutrition, which should be evaluated more thoroughly. This highlights the importance of providing her with timely medical attention.

José works sharpening knives at the Iñaquito market, an activity that provides income to cover part of their basic needs. While his income is not high, his daughters’ assistance helps cover food expenses and other basic costs. However, the resources are still limited, and additional support could make a significant difference in improving their quality of life.

Pan de Vida has the opportunity to offer valuable support to this family. Caring for the health of José and his granddaughter, as well as providing adequate food, could be the key to helping them overcome their daily struggles. This support will enable José and his granddaughter to move forward with greater stability and better conditions for their development and well-being.

With the right support, José and his granddaughter will be able to move forward with more hope and dignity, improving their quality of life and growing stronger as a family.
